Can I use a Rutgers University-Newark or Rutgers University-Camden class to meet Core Curriculum learning goals?

Information

School-to-School Transfer students who come to SAS from Rutgers-Camden and Rutgers-Newark will have their courses evaluated at the time of transfer in order to determine SAS-New Brunswick Core Curriculum applicability. No Rutgers University-Newark or Rutgers University-Camden courses taken AFTER matriculation at SAS-NB can be used to meet Core Curriculum learning goals. This includes online courses offered by units housed in Newark or Camden.

What if I am dismissed from my previous school or have taken time off?

Information

Students dismissed from their previous school will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis but will still need to meet all respective academic criteria listed above.

If you have taken time off from another school at Rutgers, you may apply to the School of Arts and Science via the reenrollment process. However, if you do not meet admission criteria at the end of a Spring or Fall term, you may not use Summer/Winter courses to meet our admission requirements for reenrollment. The only way to improve your record in this case is to return to your previous school, if that school will allow it.

If I am applying for fall admission, may I use summer session to complete an admissions requirement?

Information

No, students must complete all admissions requirements by the end of the semester in which they are applying. For Fall admission, students must complete all requirements by the end of Spring.

If accepted to SAS, is it true that all of my credits, including transfer credits will be re-evaluated and I might lose some credits awarded from my prior Rutgers school?

Information

Yes, your transcript will be re-evaluated in accordance with SAS-NB policy and procedure. You will not lose any Rutgers-Camden or Rutgers-Newark credit, but it is possible that SAS-NB would award transfer and/or pre-college credit differently than Rutgers-Camden or Rutgers-Newark did.

  •  Example #1: SAS does not award credit for elementary world languages if the student has studied the same language in high school for two years; therefore, credit for elementary languages may be removed.
  • Example #2: SAS has different transfer credit policies than other Rutgers University undergraduate colleges. One’s current school may grant credit for a pre-college or transfer course that SAS would not.
  • Example #3: SAS does not allow credit for the same course more than once, including pre-college and transfer courses.
