Think of this workshop as SAS 101 - a guide to the hidden curriculum of College, University services, understanding grades, and how to calculate your GPA. We will also include tips for approaching professors and how to find major specific information. Understanding the expectations and policies of our institution will help you become a better student, work more efficiently,  and get the most out of your SAS experience.

Students can become obsessed with selecting the “perfect” major - one that will lead to wealth, job satisfaction, and happiness. However, the realities of the job market, academic aptitude, and the personal differences that make you and your academic path unique, also make selecting a major that is right for you a complex task. This workshop will cover the main considerations when choosing your major. We will also look at pragmatic alternatives when the major of our dreams does not fit our reality. 

Now that you’ve mastered registering for courses each semester, take your academic plans a step further and learn how to map out your plan to graduation! In this session, SAS students will learn how to outline a 4-year registration plan taking into account all of your SAS degree requirements. This session will require a strong understanding of WebReg and Degree Navigator.

Besides needing your registration hold lifted, do you need a refresher on Course Schedule Planner, tips for how DN can help you plan ahead, ideas for what makes a well balanced schedule? We will also go over registration troubleshooting, for those issues that are bound to occur when you go to register.

Students will learn techniques to improve their focus, concentration, motivation, and memory. They will discuss internal and external distractions and strategies that can help keep them focused.

“That exam was too hard. How can anyone pass?” “I am not smart enough to pursue that Major.” “The professor should have reminded me.” It is often difficult to reflect and view ourselves, our habits, and beliefs objectively but, if these statements sound familiar it is time to take responsibility and ownership over your SAS experience. In this workshop, we will explore how our inner beliefs and dialogues can lead to self-sabotaging actions and habits. We will also discuss how owning mistakes and problems give us control over them and the ability to move passed them.
